Get Back on Track with Your Goals

July 27, 2019 By Taylor

Do you ever notice a shift in your focus, a lack in energy, or a lack of motivation?
Our brains and thoughts can be all over the place at times.
It can be so easy for us to get caught up in all the distractions of life and to fall short of hitting the goals we set for ourselves.
Like myself, I’ll find interest in one thing, and then find interest in another.
Maybe it’s a hunger for something more in life, or maybe it’s just my terrible attention span.
It can really throw me off the rails at times, and falling off can be okay. The important part is that I always make sure to find a way back on so I may arrive at the destination.
Arriving at the destination is more important than completely falling off track and never getting there.
Especially those New Year’s Resolutions we all know we’ll 100% stick with.
So once we recognize we are off track, how do we get back on the rails?
Well, enough of my train references.

Here’s my personal 4-Step Strategy to help you realign your focus and to help you continuously hit the SMART goals you set…

1.)  Make a list of what you are currently wasting your own time on. Own it, and bring it to reality. Nobody can tell you what you’re wasting time on. It’s up to you to take the time to reflect on what’s holding you back from achieving your greater desires.
2.) Make a list of what does NOT require your immediate attention. Get it out of your head and on to paper so you can go back to it when you have more free time.
3.) After Step 2, take a look back at the goals you’ve set. If you haven’t set any goals yet, that’s okay! Be sure to download my SMART Goal Setter to help you get them going!
4.) Make a list of what DOES require your immediate attention in life, based on the goals and objectives you want to hit. Maybe it’s making sure to meditate in the morning so you can feel more balanced during the day. It could be going to the gym right after work, rather than happy hour to socialize, so you can be sure to hit your physical health goals.
Now, while this strategy may not work for everybody, I have noticed an increasing amount of clarity of what I need to do immediately, and what I can realistically let slide and not worry about.
What differences do you want to make in yourself and how immediately do you want them to happen?
I encourage you to give this strategy a try, and to drop some feedback in the box below! I’d love to know if this worked for you, or if maybe there’s another strategy out there that works better for you! Your recommendation could be of huge benefit to others.
