From time to time, we could all use a boost of self-confidence. We’ve all been our own worst critic, and have probably allowed limiting beliefs to get in the way of our goals. If you’re looking to build self-confidence, I’d like to let you in on a little secret.
The Secret to Self-Confidence
Self-confidence isn’t something that someone can give you. It’s something you have to build for yourself. The good thing about that is you don’t have to wait for permission to build self-confidence or to be yourself.
But, if you were looking for permission, I’ll gladly give it to you. Often times we wait for the perfect moment to start living the way we aspire to live. But, you can start right now.
Allow yourself the time and space to believe in yourself.
Self-confidence is believing in yourself.
So, here are 5 ways you can boost self-confidence.
Visualize Having Self-Confidence
Take a moment and envision yourself living the life you want to live and being the person you want to be.
What does it feel like? And what does it look like? What emotions are you experiencing as you envision yourself being confident? Where are you? Are you alone or surrounded by friends?
Continue visualizing yourself with confidence and allow yourself to feel all the emotions it brings. Visualizing is a powerful part of the life coaching process and, when done consistently, can provide life-changing results.
Set Goals
Consider taking some time to write down your goals and your vision for yourself. Challenge yourself to spend just one minute doing this every day.
According to Inc.com, you are 42% more likely to achieve your goals by writing them down. Not to mention, it feels great to check off things you’ve accomplished.
By doing this, you’re proving to yourself you CAN achieve your goals. Completing tasks and achieving your goals is a great way to boost self-confidence.
By writing down your goals and visualizing who you want to be every day, you can start living in that world. Your mindset strongly influences your reality.
Understand Imposter Syndrome
Do you ever feel like an imposter? Let me give you an example.
You get assigned a project at work that you’re super excited about tackling. You’ve trained your whole life for this moment!
And, you know it.
But, slowly (or maybe even suddenly) you think, “What was I thinking? There is no way I am qualified to do this. Someone else on the team can definitely do it better. Should I abandon ship and admit I can’t do it? Do I know anything at all?”
Yikes. Scary to even read, right? Well, the good news is that you may have been experiencing imposter syndrome.
This is when you have intense feelings of self-doubt and inadequacy even though you have a track record of success and the skills to succeed.
Keep this in mind the next time you want to take on a new project. When doubt sets in, call to mind all of your past achievements as proof that you were qualified then and you’re even more qualified now.
Another thing to keep in mind is that everyone feels out of sorts sometimes, so you’re not alone!
Get Active
No, you don’t have to buy a gym membership tomorrow and you don’t have to go six times a week and at Christmas. Although, getting active is a great way to boost your self-confidence!
Just make small changes like taking the stairs or stretching before bed. Get started by researching (aka Googling) ways of being active that interest you.
Breaking a sweat is not only healthy for your body, but it’s also healthy for your mind. When you exercise, you’re allowing your mind to clear out.
When you have clarity, you can plan better and think better, too. Additionally, exercise releases endorphins which are scientifically proven to make you happier. And, happiness looks good on everyone.
Learn A New Skill
This is by far my favorite way to boost my self-confidence. Learning a new skill is a multi-dimensional way to feel great about yourself.
On one hand, you now have a new skill, and for another, you now have a new talking point during your next networking event or family gathering. It feels great to have a niche you’re confident about.
This is also a great way of meeting like-minded people. You can take a class to learn a new skill, or connect with others online who share interests with you. Surrounding yourself with people who are confident and interested in personal growth will help you continue to grow, too.
You Deserve Self-Confidence!
Hopefully, you found these tips helpful.
Think of your best self, the purest, strongest, most whole version of yourself you can possibly imagine.
That is who you really are.
